Finally managed to download the cast, my poor little modem was smoking though ;-) (Smaller files would help.)
Cheers for the heads-up! Have put your link on the blog and if you don't mind I'll put a posting up too.
Enjoyed the podcast, good to hear that not all camera clubs are alike and that you enjoyed the evening. Looking forward to a lot more mate, very enjoyable.
Hi Guys , Glad you managed to pick up some good info from the cast ,especially between all the umming and erring i was doing , lol, i still cringe when i here my own voice!!!
Hi Listened to the podcast ( Like Victor found it took a while to download.) Impressed - you may be conscious of um's and er's - but they are not noticeable. Enjoyed hearing about your first visit to the local photography club. Good luck with the blog. I'll be back soon! M100
I, unlike the others, didn't find any problems with the download speed. In-fact, it had downloaded before I had even confirmed where to save it. Either whatever the throughput issue is/was has been resolved, or it is trying to tell me to organize my Hard Disc better!
Anyways, its me rambling now..the podcast;
Very informative, I like the sound of the Panopticons, may have to try and get up there to see them (Although I live in Grimsby, so it's a fair ol' trek, but it sounds worth it. The Mrs and the kids may not agree though.
I was very surprised by your Camera Club experience, like you, I had always envisaged them as being a collection of anoraks, discussing the finer points of Aperture and white balance, whilst ripping the proverbial out of anyone who turns up with less that a re-mortgageable of photography equipment. I must say, I was surprised to say the least. Makes me feel a little better about finding my local camera club (The Cleethorpes Camera Club) when I get my dSLR. Don't think I shall attend with the Fuji, as friendly as you found yours, I think the Fuji would be pushing it.
I look forward to the next installment, although I feel the 'cast file size is a little extreme. I don't think that you need to encode at 128/44. I think that 64/11 would be more than acceptable, it is only voice after all.
Thanks for the comments, the panopticons are great to look at , not sure if worth the trip from grimsby on there own tho ?!?, lol, you should turn up to your local camera club with the fuji, there are several things that baby can do , that i bet half there pricey DSLRs cant!!!! Oh, and thanks for the tips on encoding my cast , i had kind of figured that a lower bitrate would be ok,just not sure how low ,since i am not using expensive sound fx in the `cast......yet ;-). Thanks again Ben for havin a look.
No problems, but TBH, I think that a lower bitrate would be mote than adequate for the cast, even with fancy expensive sound effects. Recording in Mono (which you are) is a good idea too as it saves on end file size.
I used to use Xing MPEG encoder, as it had many bitrate options, and was very quick. It was a command line tool however, so not to everyones taste.
If I can help in any way, then just drop me an E-Mail and I'll be happy to assist in anyway I can; I worked as an IT systems engineer and web developer for many years.
Matthew, I finally had a chance to listen to your podcast last night. You are a very entertaining talker and you paint a vivid picture of the camera club. I had a few chuckles about how you described your experience.
There's a camera club in Colne, I think. Meet, or met, at the Peter Birtwistle Community Centre. Can't recall what night though. Used to see notices in the Colne Times about meetings under the Public Notices bit.
Hi Guys , Thanks for listening ...Wow,Rob, i have people tuning in from across the globe,have had a look on your stream ,some nice work ;-)....... David- I wonder if they have the same hi-vis jackets s `burnley camera club` lol, fancy giving it a whirl!
Great Podcast Matthew, I really liked what you talked about and loved your sense of humour.
ReplyDeleteIt's inspired me to check out my local camera clubs, and I can't wait for your next episode!
